Hi guys,
I've got the "Vista Internet Security 2011/ Vista Total Security" Virus which is trying to scam people into purchasing their fake anti virus.
I've located where this virus file is in my computer.
Only issue is Trend Micro wont pick it up, its that well hidden that your anti virus isnt picking it up. even when i navigated to the folder the virus is in, i was unable to find it. Even when i set my folder options to show all hidden files.
I believe i got this virus because my copy of Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security wouldnt update for around 3 months, i tried everything imaginable - booting my computer into safe mode to try and update, etc.
I then recieved this virus from google of all places. I reckon its because my copy of Trend Micro wouldnt update to recieve the latest updates.
Now the most shocking news, suddenly after i got this virus Trend Micro magically updated exactly 2 days after this virus ruined my system.
I've managed to delete this viruses regedit files so that i could launch programs without being harrased by these stupid pop up messages.
And also ive deleted its main .DLL files but i am unable to delete the .exe file.
so this message keeps popping up:
Now its .DLL files were visible in that directory, but the .EXE was not.
I still fear theres a constant threat to my system if this virus is operating.
Please can you tell me how to resolve this issue.
Regards,
Darren.

UPDATE:
Ive run numerous scans with Trend and it is eventually picking the virus file up, mainly because i had to run the virus file.
only issue is that it detects the virus but doesnt delete/remove it.
i will attach some screenshots.

UPDATE:
I configured Trend Micro to delete all suspicious files.
and when it locates the virus file, it says "Access Denied" cannot delete this file.
Im sure the anti virus should be able to delete the virus. Its stomped me.
please reply.

Can someone please take a look at my HiJack this log and verify if I have successfully removed the Fake Vista Total Security 2011 malware/scareware??? I have recently installed and ran a 4hour WipeDrive SystemSaver that cleaned out my PC. I currently have 379GB Free of 450 GB on this laptop. ( 14.8 Free of 14.9 Recovery space.) I have removed all personal info/data/photos from the laptop and need to make sure the malware is also gone. Since running this WipeDrive software I keep getting a pop up for Dell DataSafe Local Backup trying ti launch but states it cannot and to click to close the box. Tis pops up EVERY FIVE MINUTES interferring with any basic tasks on this laptop. Please advise before I just CAN this laptop and buy brand new for piece if mind!!

Hi LG13,
I checked on your Hijackthis log and found that it was clean.
Regarding the pop up message from Dell DataSafe Local Backup, I would suggest that if you are not using this, simple uninstall it from the Control Panel.
Best regards,
